Proeedings from KSTRI meeting

  • includes KK as well. we are the same. only in 3 districts; our own survey showsn 8000-odd but reserach studeis show 5000 families…
  • LIttle bit of access to land schemes; limited access to housing; pls give special package for housing, water and for our culture and folklore - erotion of our songs, language
  • our population is decreasing -
  • we record 160 deaths per year esp among adult males
  • in kodagu, all of our people in line-houses not even eable to identify and bring them into community organisations
  • estate managers prevent people from surveying tribes workign inside estates
  • need special powers to survey adivasis stuck in bonded labour inside estates
  • for eg. Yerava is inside alemaari & budakattu
  • alemaaru results in us losing the forest rights
  • Need to “steal one’s way into the forest for burial”; is this the life we wanted…we cant even claim our rights under FRA; case of needing to go 10 km inside forests after seekign permision which was received at 3 PM in HDK taluka
  • we are across 250 haadis
  • appeal for instrumetns and accessories for advancing our folklore and culture - instead of that big building samudaaya bhavana
  • not getting any nutritious food in line-mane of BKs in Kodagu-
  • remove duplication of names in state ST list
  • Even within the ST list, Soliga in Mysore for eg. has taken up JK certificates and housing schemes (gave an example)
  • we may be having known to us 160-odd kulals - these need to be studied in terms of their origins locations, and burial sites
  • study the lack of access of tribals to their own cultural and other sites
  • regarding BK issues in teh Assadi report - reports 3400 odd families and dont agree with teh 15 lakhs per family - SC has already asked for 55 lakhs odd in 2008 itself as a relief for a family - at least give costing of money equivalent to 3 acres, a house, and other stuff
  • some of the committees ruling on our issues do not have our own people as members
  • we are bamboo weavers and this is our historical occupation and also shifting cultivation
  • bamboo is also getting destroyed
  • instacnes of SCD among the BKs; not getting treatment, screeening
  • need for special access to food for patients with SCD
  • even our ashrama school teachers are not qualified as per the education policy of the state - better qualfied teachers - have more people from within the community as teachers
